The CR2025 battery is designed for small-sized electronic equipment with low energy consumption.
The element name is deciphered according to the IEC standard as follows:
- C is a lithium cell;
- R - radial (in a round case);
- 20 - nominal diameter of 20 mm;
- 25 - nominal height 2.5 mm.
These data represent only the standard size - the electrochemical system and dimensions. More complete information is given in the technical specifications (except for the already given, so as not to be repeated).

Specifications CR2025
The CR2025 battery has many characteristics. They are not always given fully or succinctly. Here we will eliminate this drawback and give most of the most important:
- Rated voltage, V: 3;
- Voltage at the end of the discharge, V: 2.0;
- Capacity, mA / h: 165;
- Continuous discharge current, mA: 0.2;
- Operating temperature, ° C: -30 ... + 60;
- Weight, g: 2.3;
- Anode Material: Li (lithium);
- Cathode Material: MnO2 (manganese oxide);
- Electrolyte*: organic.
* After the digits of the code can follow the letters characterizing the electrolyte:
- P is alkaline KOH;
- S is alkaline NaOH;
- W - for use in watches (safe composition).
If there is no letter, then a standard organic electrolyte is used in the battery. It does not spoil the electronic equipment in which it is used when it is destroyed, while an alkaline electrolyte can almost certainly damage circuit boards.

In some cases, the manufacturer uses such an important indicator as the release date or expiration date on the body of the element. It is not always possible to obtain information on the release date, for example, manufacturers are reluctant to indicate the date of manufacture on the battery.
In the upper figure (the very first), the manufacturer marked their products with the letters HR. The letter H follows the eighth in the Latin alphabet. The letter R is the eighteenth. This may mean: 08.18. Since this date has not yet arrived, it is an expiration date. Such marking is only the manufacturer’s standard, and accurate information can only be found with him. In our case, even the manufacturer is unknown, since its name, if at all, is written in hieroglyphs.
Important! The positive electrode CR2025 is always located on its outer casing and is marked with a plus, in the same place where the letters of the rest of the markings are stamped. Negative is a smaller area, separated from the body by an insulating seal.
Battery Applications
As already mentioned, CR2025 batteries are designed for autonomous power supply of small-sized equipment, these are: watches, toys, remote controls, and a large, rapidly growing range of wireless devices for signaling or smart home.
On the one hand, the output current seems too small, 0.2 mA, but this is only an average indicator. The vast majority of modern devices working with such elements dynamically control power consumption (energy saving). Temporarily, the device can consume a current of tens of mA, but this lasts seconds or even fractions, and the rest of the time the device takes current calculated by microamps, i.e. a thousand times smaller.
Attention! If the battery is loaded with too much continuous current (for example, due to a short circuit), it may swell or leak electrolyte. Therefore, you should pay attention to the correct polarity when installing in the battery holder. Most devices designed to work with such batteries do not have any protection against reverse polarity.
Battery analogs CR2025
A well-known analogue is DL2025, but in fact it is just another designation.To some extent, the closest analogues can be considered such elements of the CR20xx series as CR2016 and CR2032. They have the same diameter, but the CR2016 has a height of 1.6 mm and the CR2032 has a height of 3.2 mm. Accordingly, the capacity of CR2016 is less, and CR2032 more than CR2025 (you can directly take the proportion in height).
Many spring battery holders can reliably fix all three sizes, but in some cases the design of the holder is such that only one type can be installed in it, the other either simply does not fit or hangs without providing electrical contact.
Can I charge the CR2025 battery
Unfortunately no, this is not a battery. The chemistry of this element is such that the reaction in it is irreversible. The manufacturer does not report anything about the technology, for obvious reasons, but well-known attempts to charge this element in practice are unsuccessful and in many cases result in the element swelling and depressurizing.
Moreover, this can occur after an attempt to charge and during subsequent installation. In some cases, even the device into which the battery is inserted breaks.
Popular manufacturers and their features
Element of type CR2025 is produced by many companies, including: Camelion, Duracell, Energizer, GP, Maxell, Panasonic, Renata, Varta, Sony, Cosmos (Russia), Starline, Robiton, Ansmann and even less well-known. In terms of quality, Japanese and European manufacturers compete with each other, in terms of price, Asian producers are smarter and sell cheaper, making a large commodity-money turnover.
There is a certain distrust of Chinese manufacturers, but to be honest, the Chinese make very optimal quality at the lowest price. Russian batteries are just a resale; they are not made in Russia. One can guess that these are Chinese.
What to look for when purchasing
First of all, on the quality of packaging. The battery (or kit) must be in sealed plastic packaging with a cardboard insert on which the manufacturer's data are printed, and the release date and / or expiration date. CR type lithium cells have a long shelf life, but the newer the better.
If the package is “left-handed”, concocted by craftsmen using scotch tape and printing it is not clear what on a color printer, it is better not to buy. The problem is that the case of the element is often not marked by date at all (see above) and in this way wholesale fraudsters can sell recycled illiquid assets.
