Transponders are modern electronic devices used for remote transmission of information. Signal generation requires an electric current, so such devices have a built-in slot with batteries.
Despite the fact that high-quality batteries are initially installed in such devices, over time, they begin to lose charge, which cannot affect the quality of the device. Many home craftsmen make attempts to replace the batteries with their own hands, but such an operation is not always successful.
What batteries are installed in the transponder, how many serve and how it is possible to replace them will be described in detail below.

What batteries are installed in the transponder
Depending on the model of the device, the following elements can be used to maintain its operability:
- CR2032. Disc-shaped lithium battery. With a relatively small size, the battery has a capacity of about 225 mAh and a voltage of 3 volts. A very battery of this type is installed to power the BIOS of a computer or laptop.
- CR2477. This "tablet" battery has increased capacity. The nominal value of this parameter is 1000 mAh (voltage 3 V). For this reason, transponders with this type of battery installed operate for the longest time.
- BR2477A. This battery model is a modification of the CR2477 cell. With equal dimensions, the BR2477A has contacts welded to the case, with which the product can be securely fixed to the circuit board by soldering.
All of these models have a long service life and can be operated in temperature conditions from minus 40 to plus 60 degrees Celsius.
Is it possible to change
Whether or not the batteries in the transponder can be changed depends on the purpose of the device. If the transponder is made in the form of a search element for detecting skiers under the rubble of snow or the keys to the apartment, and if the battery runs out in such a device, then a mandatory replacement of the battery will be required.
The situation is completely different in devices with installed software. Such products register or calculate any actions and statistics on transactions can be completely reset.
For example, in Avtodor transponders, the manufacturer categorically does not recommend changing power supplies. Such actions are fraught with a malfunction in the software or a complete breakdown of the device.
The warnings of manufacturers regarding the danger of replacing a power source do not apply to older models of such devices. In devices released earlier, you can replace them without any fear.
Replacement Instructions
You can change the battery in the transponder even of the latest model in the official service center, but such a service costs money and takes at least two weeks. So much time is needed for specialists to check and change the battery with the subsequent adjustment of the device.
If the manufacturer’s ban on independent actions to replace the element is not able to stop the home master, then work on replacing the battery in the T-Pass transponder should be carried out in the following sequence:
- Remove the back cover of the product. For this purpose, with a thin and flat object, it is necessary to pry one of the halves of the transponder.
- After releasing the printed circuit board from the plastic casing, use the pliers to carefully disconnect the plus feet of the battery.
- Solder the negative contact from the board.
- Remove residual positive contacts.
- Solder a new battery.
With this method of replacing the battery, the device will be completely de-energized for some time, which may negatively affect its future performance, so that during the work to maintain the functionality of the device, an electric current of 3 volts should be connected to it.
For this purpose, you can use 2 series-connected AA batteries, or exactly the same CR2032. To do this, install them in a separate box, from which thin copper wires should be removed. These conductors should be soldered, observing the polarity, to the corresponding connection points of the battery mount.
Should I do a replacement
The manufacturer in the manufacture of the transponder installs powerful lithium batteries in them, which are enough for a standard load of at least 5 years.
The service life of the device slightly exceeds this period, so it makes no sense to install a new battery for the same period in the device, which will need to be replaced in the near future.
